Painted Warrior

Well, just because all my WC! scratchboard friends are asleep, recovering from Friday’s blockbuster opening of “Scratching the Surface” (sigh) and Saturday’s in-depth scratchboard demos (double sigh) in Indiana doesn’t mean I get to laze about. I’ve got paperwork to do – taxes (shudder). But before I do that, I’m pleased to let you know that my artistic drought is over! I don’t know if it was the anticipation of the opening weekend, or the frustration at being so far away from such an exciting event, but I have a new board to show you. I will be adding colour, but wanted you to see it in the black and white stage:

About Tania

I'm an artist, specifically a wildlife artist. And how exactly does one know she is an artist, specifically a wildlife artist? Well, only artists get excited about new art supplies, "Mmm, unmarked claybord..." or discovering a new satin sheen spray varnish *sigh* And only a wildlife artist gets distracted during a very serious conversation with her exceptionally supportive spouse by a fledgling sparrow taking it's first shaky flight across the yard.

I love it! Your attention to detail is superb. I love the eye – it really seems round and glassy. Great job doing the hair too .. I bet that took awhile :)

Thanks, Eric! That mane drove me crazy, and I’m still not 100% pleased with it – what is it about artists being their own worst critics? Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to add some colour tonight – I’m not a fan of colour, but I’m kinda looking forward to this one ’cause it’s only in certain areas.

That’s funny you say you’re “not 100% pleased with it” because that is exactly the same language I used just now in reply to your comment on my site (the ‘anathema’ piece). I’m definitely hard on myself, but then, only we really know where we could have done better, right? Of course the frustrating thing with scratchboard is — there’s no going back!
