Just in case you think I’ve been lazy over the past week… here’s what I’ve been up to: meet Floyd, a Mastiff (Bull Mastiff, I believe?) who is owned by family friends. He’s a handsome boy to be sure. I used a combination of pin and X-acto blades on this portrait. Floyd’s fur was something of a challenge. I’ve only met two other mastiffs in real life, and both had short, dense, slightly abrasive coats - I’ve never done fur quite like this before. I did one light layer with the pin and then a second layer over that with the X-acto blade. The texture on his muzzle was also a challenge because it was a mix of fine fur and skin. But I love, love, loved doing the wrinkles over his forehead!! I think they really add character.

Well, now that I’m done Floyd, it’s back to my Western series. See you back here in a couple days with an update.

I’m sulking. NBC has decided to cancel their new television series, My Own Worst Enemy. Jeez, I mean I’d just barely forgiven them for cancelling Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and they go and do this! Just what does NBC have against intelligent, challenging television anyway!? What are they going to replace it with? More Knight Rider, which they’ve extended to run another year!!?? (And for the record, I enjoyed the original KR series.)

I’m going to make myself some popcorn.
